Closing day of National Library Week Celebration, 2011

The NLW Celebration was concluded on the 20th November 2011 with a grand success. As a closing function of the National Library Week Celebration, "First Mayengbam Anandamohan Singh Memorial Lecture" was held in relation to his 100th Birth Anniversary at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU).
 

Floral tribute to  (L) Mayengbam Anandamohan Singh . He was the first Chief Librarian of the State Central Library. He contributed a lot for the welfare of the state with pioneering efforts. Wide range of his efforts include establishment and development of library in the state. A social reformer and writer.

Felicitation Programme for Essay Competition @ MPS

On the 4th day, the 17th  of November,2011, of NLW Celebration, A  Felicitation Programme for Essay Competition on " Role of Library in School Education", was held at Manipur Public School, Koirengei, Imphal, jointly organised by Manipur Library Association and Manipur Public School, korengei, Imphal.

On the 3rd  day, the 16th of November. 2011, of the National Library Week Celebration, A Vidyalaya Level Essay Competition on "Cultivation of Reading Habit in School Life", was held at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Lambui, Ukhrul, jointly organised by Manipur Library Association and JNV, Ukhrul,.
The winners of the competition are : 
                                                      First position - Rajiv Bista, Class X
                                                      Second position - Nongmaithem Santosh Singh, Class X
                                                      Third postion - Jaseme, Class X.

One Day Library Awareness Programme


On the second day of the National Library Week Celebration, Manipur 2011, a one day Library Awareness Programme was held at Youths Club keisamthong, Top Leirak, Imphal. Sponsored by Manipur Library Association (MALA), Imphal  and organised by Youths Club keisamthong, Top Leirak.                                                    

  



Mr. N. Inaocha Singh, President MALA, appealed the participants to develop the habit of reading in life and take moral responsibility in brnging peace and development in the state.



                                                        
 

 
 Mrs. S. Sophiarani, Executive Member of MALA as a Resource Person delivered her speech, the significance of the  National Library Week celebration and to inculcate reading habit to all the cross section of the society for a better knowledge society.

Highlights of the National Library Week 2011

 NLW Celebration, 14th to 20th November, 2011, Manipur.
Theme : Read, Learn and Serve
The concept of National Library  Week was adopted for the first time in the USA with the slogan "Wake Up and Read". Such a program claimed to be the first of its kind in the world; was organised by the National Book Committee in collaboration with the American Library Association (ALA) in 1958. The theme of the program "A Better Read: A Better Informed America" the program was first concerted nation wide effort to form public attention on reading as a source of personal fulfillment on the importance of reading in the national life and on libraries, which if used fully and supported properly, can make reading and information accessible to everyone.



National Library Week (NLW) in India;
In india NLW is celebrated every year during 14th to 20th November. Since 1968, many Library Associations, National Book Trust, Sahitya Akademi, Association of Book Sellers/Publishers, NGOs, etc. of the country have taken initiatives of celebrating NLW all over the country.


National Library Week (NLW) in Manipur;
In the last two decades Manipur Library Association (MALA) has been celebrating the week long program and NLW has been an important schedule program of the Association since 1987. The very credit for the celebration NLW in the state, as such, must go to the MALA, the only Library Association of the state which has been playing a crucial role for the upliftment and development of library  system and service in Manipur.

This program is organised to recognise the values of libraries and librarians. Program is organised in different parts of the state by Manipur Library Association in collaboration with Dept. of Library and Information Science, MU and all types of libraries are involved in the program under the theme : Read, Learn and Serve.
